The Relationship That Heals

Why Who Sits Across From You Matters

When we're looking for someone to help us heal, we often begin by looking at qualifications.

Training.

Experience.

Certifications.

Those things matter.

But over the years, I've come to believe they are only part of the answer.

Healing isn't influenced only by what a practitioner knows.

It's also influenced by who they have become.

Years ago, when I became impatient with my own healing, someone said something I've never forgotten.

"Your mind has to ripen."

Another dear friend later said something equally profound.

"You have to wait for yourself."

At first, I didn't fully understand.

I wanted to feel better.

Intellectually, I understood so much.

I knew where many of my struggles came from.

I recognized the patterns.

I knew what I wanted to change.

But knowing and healing aren't always the same thing.

There were still parts of me that needed time.

Parts that couldn't be rushed.

Parts that responded only to kindness.

Looking back now, I realize something that has shaped not only my own healing, but also the way I sit with every client.

For a long time, I believed becoming a better practitioner meant learning more techniques, attending more trainings, and finding the perfect words.

Those things were valuable, and I'm grateful for every teacher who helped shape my path.

But the greatest shift in my work wasn't another technique I learned.

It was the relationship I was slowly developing with myself.

Slowly, I became more patient...

more accepting...

and above all, kinder with myself...

something else began to change.

Not only the way I experienced my own healing.

The way I was able to be with another person.

There was less striving.

Less pressure to get everything exactly right.

Less of me trying to prove I knew enough.

Instead, there was more space.

More presence.

More trust.

Growing in knowledge has always mattered to me. Growing in relationship with myself has changed everything.

One day, a client described me as "the most comfortable stranger I ever met."

I've never forgotten those words.

Not because they felt like a compliment.

But because they helped me understand the kind of space that had quietly emerged in my work.

Not someone who has all the answers.

But someone who creates a space where it feels safe enough to discover your own.

Today, I believe people sometimes heal more deeply with one practitioner than with another.

Not because one has a better technique.

But because some practitioners have become spacious enough inside themselves...

that another person can finally let go.

That doesn't mean we've arrived.

I certainly haven't.

Something is always ripening in me.

I continue to learn.

To grow.

To meet new parts of myself with curiosity and kindness.

Because the relationship we cultivate with ourselves quietly shapes the relationship we are able to offer another person.

If you're looking for someone to walk beside you, don't just ask what they know.

Ask yourself:

Do you feel safe?

Do you feel truly heard?

Do you feel you're in the hands of someone who can help you move beyond where you've been stuck?

Because...

when we feel truly safe and deeply heard...

the conditions for healing naturally emerge.

And perhaps healing begins not when we find the perfect practitioner...

but when we find someone who allows us to become more fully ourselves.

The relationship you choose matters.

If you're curious whether my approach is the right fit for you, I'd be honored to meet you.
